Suicide Prevention: Considerations for Special Populations Course© will delve into both identifying signs of suicide risk among special populations and discussing strategies for prevention with an emphasis on fostering awareness of issues within marginalized communities, including but not limited to the LGBTQIA+ community, neurodivergent individuals, veterans, and those from diverse cultural backgrounds.This course was designed to meet the needs of Professional Counselors, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Nurses, Substance Abuse Counselors, Social Workers, Crisis Specialists, Marriage & Family Therapists, Pastoral Counselors, and other roles that support marginalized communities.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the unique challenges faced by special populations in relation to suicide risk.
  • Explain warning signs of suicide within diverse special populations.
  • Apply communication skills for effective suicide prevention within special populations.
  • Demonstrate awareness of cultural sensitivity in suicide prevention.
  • Assess the specific risks and challenges special populations face regarding suicide.
