Dotti Owens is a nationally recognized expert in medicolegal death investigation, forensic pathology administration, and public health initiatives related to suicide and overdose prevention. With over 20 years of experience in medicolegal death investigations and eight years as an elected coroner, Dotti has dedicated her career to advancing forensic science, improving investigative processes, and implementing innovative public health strategies to address the opioid crisis and suicide prevention.
From 2015 to 2023, Dotti served as the Ada County Coroner, where she transformed the office into a nationally recognized forensic center. Under her leadership, the office achieved full accreditation with the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME) and the International Association of Coroners & Medical Examiners (IACME). She played a pivotal role in designing and overseeing the construction of a state-of-the-art forensic pathology facility, enhancing forensic capabilities throughout Idaho.
Dotti has been instrumental in suicide prevention efforts, emphasizing the vital role of coroners and medical examiners in identifying trends and contributing to proactive prevention measures. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Public Health, Dotti continues her commitment to integrating forensic science with public health strategies to drive meaningful change. Through her leadership, advocacy, and expertise, Dotti Owens continues to make a lasting impact in forensic science and public health, striving to bridge the gap between death investigation and proactive prevention efforts to save lives.
