Erika Shook (she/her) is a public relations specialist at the University of Maryland School of Social Work and a Master of Public Health student at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, specializing in community and population health. With a focus on public health communication, Erika oversees strategic campaigns for mental health, suicide prevention, and opioid recovery, supported by grants from the Centers for Dieases Control and Prevention and the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Her work spans Maryland and other states, where she develops community partnerships, creates public health messaging, and develops data-driven reports to support health interventions.
With a strong background in digital marketing from previous work at an advertising agency, Erika has managed social media strategies, search engine optimization, and content creation for diverse clients in the non-profit, for-profit, and educational sectors. Her technical skills and passion for mental health advocacy have earned her recognition, including the Grand Prize at the 2024 DC Public Health Case Challenge where she and her teammates developed a public health intervention targeting emerging adult mental health. She is actively involved in professional organizations, including the Public Health Communications Collaborative and University of Maryland, Baltimore Student Section of the Maryland Public Health Association.
