Dr. James McGraw is a postdoctoral scholar at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, working with the Suicide and Trauma Reduction Initiative (STRIVE) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. He holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Bowling Green State University and completed his APA-accredited internship at the Canandaigua Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
As a clinician-scientist, Dr. McGraw is dedicated to reducing the impact of trauma and suicide through patient-centered care and rigorous research. He is trained in evidence-based interventions for PTSD and suicide, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Written Exposure Therapy (WET), Crisis Response Planning (CRP), and Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention (BCBT). Dr. McGraw’s research focuses on developing novel suicide risk assessments, testing suicide prevention interventions for at-risk populations (such as LGBTQ+ individuals, children, adolescents, and veterans), and improving suicide prediction and theory.
