Ioannis Demopoulos is a Community Health Worker and advocate, with experience in public health and mental health, case management and community outreach. His passions include harm reduction, with respect to both substance use and sexual activity, mental health and suicide prevention and awareness, and LGBTQIA+ advocacy. He is currently working with Elmhurst Hospital's Suicide Prevention in Youth program (ESPY), and has previously worked in New York City's Public Health Corps, as well as with New York City's Test and Trace Corps as a Community Engagement Specialist during the Covid-19 pandemic. He is currently serving on Elmhurst Hospital's Pride Health Center committee, where he is leveraging his years of community outreach experience to help address healthcare disparities in the LGBTQIA+ community. Outside of work, he volunteers with a substance use and harm reduction hotline, serves on the Health and Human Services committee of Queens Community Board 4, and is also completing additional undergraduate coursework with the goal of pursuing graduate training in clinical psychology.
