Dr. Alex Karydi is the Director of State and Community Initiatives at the Suicide Prevention Resource Center, the only federally supported center dedicated to advancing the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention. She holds dual Ph.D. degrees in Clinical Sexology and Marriage and Family Therapy. Throughout her career, Alex has worked across various systems, including education, justice, social services, and behavioral health, serving as a therapist, grant writer, and program manager. In 2015, Alex became the Program Director for the South Carolina Department of Mental Health’s Office of Suicide Prevention, where she established the state's first dedicated office for suicide prevention and developed a comprehensive school suicide prevention program. She later served as Program Director for Project 2025 at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, a nationwide effort to reduce the U.S. suicide rate by 20% by 2025. Additionally, Alex has worked at Callen-Lorde Community Center, a global leader in LGBTQ healthcare based in New York. Her clinical expertise spans a range of areas, including LGBTQ+ health (with a focus on lesbian, bisexual, and queer women's health), transgender youth, HIV care, addiction treatment, and suicide prevention. Alex is recognized for her strategic leadership, commitment to culturally competent care, and efforts to drive innovative solutions in mental health and suicide prevention.
